A Public Art Exhibition
The lil’ chickens of marietta is a public art project that will bring the designs of local artists out of the
galleries and into public spaces around Marietta for all to enjoy. In the spirit of the popular “Cows on
Parade,” the lil’ chickens of marietta brings art to our streets in a new way with a decidedly familiar
character.
A flock of up to 35 fiberglass chicken sculptures will be exhibited at locations chosen by participating
sponsors and the lil’ chickens committee during the summer of 2007, and auctioned to the public at the
end of the exhibition period.
The lil’ chickens of marietta. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Our purpose is to promote local artists and
their work, and through that process to raise funds for local nonprofit organizations. We have had help and
support along the way from local groups who can’t wait for this basket of eggs to hatch. Special thanks to
The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art, The Marietta History Museum, the Marietta Welcome Center and the
Junior League of Cobb-Marietta.

These birds are about fun and will delight residents and visitors alike. But don’t expect to get directions
around town from them!
Call to Artists
“Atlanta had cows, Sandy Springs has turtles, and now Marietta spoofs the famous Big Chicken with the lil'
chickens of marietta. It's a great fundraiser and a way to have fun with a well-known landmark. I'm confident
it will bring visitors who will discover all the wonderful things we have to offer. Like Marietta, the lil' chickens
are unique”
– Mayor Bill Dunaway
Application and Selection
Artists local to Marietta are invited to submit up to two design proposals. Each application will consist of an
entry form, proposal description and a concept drawing.
Once an application package has been received, it will be reviewed to ensure the design conforms to the
standards outlined.
Approved design proposals will be placed in a portfolio and made available for review by potential
sponsors. An artist whose lil’ chicken is sponsored will be notified immediately.
Design Criteria
- The fiberglass model will be hollow, 62” in height and weigh approximately 60 pounds. A 5”
cement base (an additional 150 lbs) will be used to anchor the lil’ chicken and should be
considered part of the overall design proposal.
- Artists are invited to paint, sculpt, adorn or otherwise artistically transform the basic lil’ chicken
model as they wish, but the structural integrity of the form must not be compromised.
- The sculptures are intended as permanent works of outdoor art. Public accessibility, safety, liability
and weather conditions must be taken into consideration in the design.
- Artists whose designs are selected will be required to follow guidelines for the use of
conservational materials able to withstand climatic conditions over time.
- Artists will be responsible for any repair or upkeep to their pieces during the fall of 2007 until the fall
of 2008 public exhibition period.
- Designs that express cultural and historical themes are welcome, as are designs that are clever
and whimsical in character.
- Commercial logos are not acceptable, but creative interpretations of business concepts will be
considered.
