In 2007, the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta launched a new
funding effort, intended to recognize and reward one young
woman in the Cobb-Marietta Community each academic year
for her exceptional service to the community in making a
difference in the lives of others. The Janet J. Street
Scholarship honors the former CEO of Girls’ Inc. of Greater
Atlanta and past president of the Junior League of Cobb-
Marietta (JLCM). Through her commitment to inspire girls to
be strong, smart and bold, Janet exemplifies the ideals of
community service and dedication that all members of the
Junior League of Cobb-Marietta strive to achieve.
The 2008 -2009 recipient of this award is truly awe inspiring. With a dream to help someone in a way that
could change their life forever, this young lady founded her own non-profit just two short years ago with the
initial mission to provide backpacks of basic clothing and supplies to homeless children in local schools.
Today, she has expanded her efforts to include a Back to School Backpack Drive that raised over $15,000
and provided backpacks and school supplies to over 1100 children in the community. When you learn
about this tremendous effort, you are amazed by the work she has done. But, when you learn that this
young lady is just TEN years old, it makes us all pause to consider how we too can do a little more to help
bring hope to the lives of others. To learn more about A Fresh Hope and how you can help with this year’s
efforts, please visit their web site: www.afreshhope.com
