The Junior League of Cobb-Marietta
Volunteer Requests
The Junior League of Cobb-Marietta implements its Community Program in three specific
ways – Community Projects, Done in a Day Events and Done in a Meeting Projects.  Each of
these programs provides Junior League members with the opportunity to collaborate with
local agencies to impact the lives of women and children in the Cobb-Marietta Community.

Community Projects
As we seek agency partners and select programs for the 2010 – 2011 League Year, we will
continue our tradition of service by selecting Community Partners and Projects that
compliment our mission and vision.  The JLCM is specifically
seeking agency partnerships
with whom we can make a meaningful and lasting impact on the children and families of
Cobb County
.  The volunteers of the JLCM enjoy the ability to work directly with those who
are benefitting from their volunteer service so that they can see the impact of their efforts
first-hand.  The Junior League of Cobb-Marietta greatly values the ability to measure the
impact of our service to an agency, as well.

The goal of a JLCM Community Project is to help meet the needs of community
organizations through volunteer service and financial support, if applicable.  The selection
process occurs on a yearly basis and volunteer services and funding is provided only for
the year of selection.  Funding may be up to $5,000, with the likely amount in the range of
$1,500 to $3,000.

Done in a Day (DIAD)
In addition to our community projects, the JLCM collaborates with local agencies for two
additional League-Wide Volunteer efforts – Done in a Day and Done in a Meeting.  Done in
a Day (DIAD) Projects are large-scale volunteer projects which enables the League to assist
community agencies which do not have a need for League volunteers on an ongoing basis,
but may have a need to staff a one or two day special event or have a one-time need for
extra volunteers. All DIAD volunteer requests must be for community-based, hands on
opportunities.

Done in a Meeting
The goal of Done in a Meeting (DIAM) is to enhance the Junior League’s role in the
community with additional “hands on” opportunities that provide members with information
about partner agencies and assist those agencies with a task – saving them time and
money.  These tasks are conducted during the JLCM Monthly Membership Meetings and
can be administrative in nature.  For example, last year we stuffed envelopes for the Center
for Family Resources’ holiday mailing, created race packets for the March of Dimes Walk for
Babies, filled tote bags for CURE Childhood Cancer’s Parent Bereavement Workshop and
labeled children’s books for Communities in Schools.

For DIAD and DIAM requests, the JLCM requests advance
notice of four to six weeks before
an event, if possible
.  This will allow the League to obtain the necessary League approvals
and notify the volunteers. Weekend and/or evening opportunities are preferable. The
League cannot guarantee volunteers. If volunteers choose to sign up for your event, the
chairperson will let you know within two weeks of the event. Thank you for considering the
Junior League of Cobb-Marietta as a source for dedicated, community minded volunteers.
All volunteer requests must be approved by the Community Vice President of the Junior
League of Cobb-Marietta.

Any non-profit organization in the Cobb-Marietta area is eligible for application.  For
additional information, contact Bonny McKinnon, DIAD/DIAM Chairperson at
bonnymck@yahoo.com.
