The Junior League of Cobb-Marietta
JLCM Community Partners
The Junior League of Cobb-Marietta is proud to partner with the following organizations
for the 2009 – 2010 year:

The Center for Children and Young Adults
The Center for Children and Young Adults is dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing
environment with comprehensive services for children and young adults who are abused,
neglected or at risk.  The JLCM is proud to work with the Center to launch Kids in the
Kitchen, a nationwide Junior League program that empowers youth to make healthy lifestyle
choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues.
JLCM members will provide healthful meals and education to the children at the Center on a
monthly basis.

The Center for Family Resources
The Center for Family Resources provides comprehensive services and opportunities for
individuals, families and communities to improve their lives and increase their economic
capacity by offering education and employment services, housing services, direct financial
services and community building programs.   This year, Junior League volunteers will assist
with GED preparation and job readiness training.

Cobb County Youth Museum
Recognizing that the arts are crucial to a child’s education, this program remains a unique
educational opportunity for children in Cobb County.  Junior League volunteers serve as
docents at the museum.

Communities in Schools
Communities in Schools champions the connection of needed community resources with
schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school and prepare for life.
Through the Georgia Literacy Connection program, Communities in Schools is making a
difference in our local elementary schools through increased reading skills.  This program
provides one-on-one tutoring with book distribution and reading workshops.  Junior League
volunteers members volunteer in Cobb County and Marietta City schools.

Girls Incorporated
Girls Incorporated inspires girls to become strong, smart, and bold.  The JLCM is proud to
assist Girls Inc. with the Operation SMART (Science, Math, and Relevant Technology)
program, a national program that encourages girls ages 9-18, to develop interests and
pursue non-traditional careers in mathematics, technology and the sciences through hands-
on, interactive activities.  Volunteers will help implement this program at the Girls Inc.
headquarters.

Omosaze
Omosaze empowers low-income, early-elementary children to succeed by providing
structured instruction in reading and comprehension in a supportive environment that
reinforces positive attitudes about learning.  This year, Junior League volunteers will work
with Omosaze to implement the “Reading Saturday” program in Cobb County and Marietta
City Schools.

SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center
SafePath offers a new way of serving abused and neglected children through a
comprehensive approach to services for victims and their families.   The Junior League is
currently working with SafePath to create the “Junior League Murals of Hope” and serving
as evening intake volunteers at the Center.

YWCA of Northwest Georgia
The YWCA of Northwest Georgia is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and
promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.  JLCM volunteers are serving as
volunteers for the annual Domestic Assault vigil in April of 2010 and serving as volunteers in
the Legal Aid Office.
